September Intensive 2009

Originally this Intensive was scheduled for October instead of September, however seeing that this workshop is geared towards the early morning and late evening lighting conditions I feel the class is better served in September having better weather conditions to work under. The colors of fall are wonderful but again the emphasis will be on the color of the light and it's effects. The changing colors of fall and the time that they decide to change are always difficult to predicte as well.

With that in mind the second Intensive is scheduled for September 9, 10, 11, with a Meet and Greet at the studio on the evening of the 8th.

Below is posted a quick over view of how the workshop will go as well as a few comments from the evaluations from the first Intensive. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to reserve a spot please feel free to contact Ken at dewaard@mwt.net or 608-637-3275

Thank you!

We will start early and go late with a siesta in the mid day or you can choose to paint through it if you so desire. Most workshops start at 9 and go until 4, which is a six hour day we will go 9 hours a day by beginning each day at 6:00 am - 10:30 am then resume at 3:30 pm - 8:00 pm (sunset ).
This is not for the faint of heart. We will start off with small canvas' ( color notes ) moving to larger ones as the day goes on and then back again to the smaller ones as sunset closes in. We will be facing the challenges of capturing the ever fleeting light as well as seeing beyond the obvious and looking for the designs in nature. As always we will be working alla prima and look to complete these in one session. We will also be working to simplify our shapes, really push to explore our use of temperatures and color along with controlling our values as well as our edges. Composition and design underly all of these along with our drawing which will be our foundation.
This class will be a very invigorating and fast moving with a slightly slower tempo during the mid day hours. All in all we will look to make our paintings vibrant, fresh, and full of light and color.

There will also be a Meet and Greet / wine and cheese at the studio on Monday evening September 8th at 6:30 pm

Comments from first Intensive:

"I appreciated all of the hard work that you went through to plan this workshop and to help each student. You were positive with your approach to all students. Your critiques were kind yet honest. All students were encouraged in the pursuit of their own personal language yet, also to take risks and improve their painting with better composition and design elements." Becky Herlitzke

"Very informative, learned more in 3 days than did in the last year." Paul Goderstad

"The early and late hours were so worth it.
The mid-day extremely necessary and it went so fast.
Thank you so much for opening your studio and your heart and your willingness to share and pass on what you know.
Your enthusiasm, energy and sense of humor is contagious and really made for an excellent workshop experience." Nancy Laliberte

"I really got a lot out of the demos and your explaining temperatures and how you "pushed" color. It helped me see things differently."
Buttons Wolst

"You were very giving of your time. Information great. I do enjoy oil!" Deloras Vind (Watercolorist)

"Loved your hospitality, good humor, artistic talent, concern for students progress and "well- being"."
Susan Denison
